Myofascial release is a hands-on technique physiotherapists use to promote healing and relieve pain. Connective tissue constitutes the entire human body. Fascia, simply put, is the infrastructure which forms a continuous 3-D network throughout the connective tissue system.

At the cellular level fascia:
●  Supplies all cells with oxygenation, nutrients, hormones and enzymes.

●  Acts as a waste product removal system.

●  Forms the membrane of each cell.

●  Is one fluid tapestry from the crown of the head to soles of the feet, and from skin to bone.

●  Wraps around muscles, bones, organs and nerves, anchoring them in place.

●  Is the immediate environment around all cells.

●  Contracts at 2,000 pounds per square inch when stressed/ injured.

●  When this network is stressed, owing to illness, trauma or injury, adhesions occur which bind down the system resulting in restrictions.

How does it work?
●  Using gentle "hands on" techniques, the therapist stretches specific types of tissue to affect desired changes in the body's infrastructure, thus causing a "release" of the adhesions.

●  By releasing or freeing up fascia impeding on blood vessels or nerves, the body's innate restorative powers are enhanced, resulting in improved circulation and nervous system transmission.

●  Restores optimal body alignment by releasing restricted fascial tissue throughout the body.

●  Maintains proper postural alignment by freeing the corseting affects of constricted fascial planes through out muscle tissue.

●  Relieves pain by flushing toxicity from painful tissue sites, and normalizing function of the body's musculoskeletal system.

●  Reduces the effort required by the body to perform every day tasks.

What can you expect
●  The therapist will ask about your complaints, assess and evaluate your current postural mal-alignment dysfunction.

●  The therapist uses the skin initially to diagnose fascial adhesions and restrictions, then releases those adhesions with gentle stretching techniques to realign the fascia.

●  The therapist will work on releasing various parts of your body, not just the parts that hurt, because fascial restrictions distort the entire fabric of the body.

●  Some patients feel immediate relief of their pain. Others experience some increased discomfort overnight which usually subsides within a day or two.

    ●  Back pain
    ●  Headaches
    ●  Shin splints
    ●  Carpal tunnel
    ●  Jaw pain
    ●  Sprains & strains
    ●  Chronic fatigue syndrome
    ●  Muscle spasms
    ●  Stress injuries
    ●  Fibromyalgia
    ●  Pelvic pain
    ●  Surgical scars
    ●  Frozen shoulder
    ●  Tennis elbow
    ●  Golfer's elbow
    ●  Rheumatoid arthritis
    ●  Whiplash

Cautions
●  If you have signs and symptoms of a potentially serious disease, see your personal physician first.

●  Let your therapist know if you are taking anticoagulants (blood thinners) such as warfarin, or bruise very easily.

●  It is recommended that you drink plenty of water to flush out any waste products that were released during your treatment. As this may contribute to symptoms of nausea, light headedness or soreness.

●  Let your therapist know if you are pregnant or recently had an injury or surgery.
